BOROUGH RATES.
NEARLY £9,000 COLLECTED. £1496 TAKEN YESTERDAY. With the near approach of the last day when Borough rates may be paid without the imposition of the 10 per cent, penalty, the staff at the Municipal Chambers ha«s been kept busy. Yesterday no less than £1496 7s. 3d was collected, making a total of £8926 19s lOrl to date, out of a total of £11,238 17s 7d struck for the year. This left £2311 12s 9d, and as .to-day was the last clear day for payment, many belated ratepayers attended the office, so that very little should be outstanding to-morrow.
