DEMPSTER UNBEATEN.

BCORES 164 NOT OUT. MATCH WITH GLAMORGAN. FLUCTUATING CRICKET. ."Press Association —Copyright.) (Received This Day, 9.40 a.nu) LONDON, August 1. There was a. Bank Holiday crowd at Cardiff to see the resumption of the picket match, New Zealand v. Glamorganshire. The spectators witnessed some fluctuating cricket. Lowiy Jbelped Dempster to add 79 for the fifth wicket in an hour. Then a> remarkable change came over tip play. Mercer, who had had some 6ft runs hit off him without obtaining a wicket, was put on again, and this time proved practically unplayable. He took five wickets for an. additional 23 runs, -and James was ran out. Dempster alone could do anything with Mercer and remained unbeaten to the end, carrying his bat for 167. He gave one chance in the slips at 135, hat, apart from this, his innings was a magnificent display of batting. It lasted 4J hours, and he had one six and 14 fours in his (total. When the County went in, Bates and JX Davies hit so freely that the first wicket put on 73. The next two men also' started well, ;and then a collapse* similar to that of the New Zealanders occurred. This was caused by Bernau, who relieved Merritt. None of the batsmen could time his fast deliveries, with the result iihat Glamorgan was ail out in 2J hours. The left-hander got six wickets for 35, and in his final mell got three imen in four overs for 11 runs>. Despite New .'Zealand's lead of 200, Jjumiy did not enforce the follow-on, hut went in again. The batting was not nearly so successful as before. Dacre hit with fine power till bowled by Mercer, but three wickets were down for 64, and when stumps were drawn six men were out for 144.
