UNEMPLOYED RELIEF.
CHRISTCHURCH CITY LOAN. (Per Press Association.") CHRISTCHURCH, August 1. The City Council to-nis?ht decided h? 11 votes to s—the Labour majority against the rest of the members—to proceed with arrangements for a loan of £25.000 for relief of unemployment. The money it is proposed to expend on improvement of city streets. This special loan may be raised without reference to the ratepayers, but the proposal must <io before the Local Bodies Loan Board.
THE POSITION IN DUNEDIN. FEWER. MARRIED MEN. DUNEDIN, This Day. According to registrations of unemployed, the plight of married men has been greatly relieved. The number is now down to 54, with single men 166. Otago has been allocated £SOO of the canteen funds, and the interest is* now being devoted to workless exsoldiers. Oamaru is to share in the expenditure.
