COUNTY CENTRES

{From o'ir Own Correspondents). EIFFELTON. The meteorological records for March, kept by Mr John. McLauchlan, show that the month was a. dry one, easterly winds prevailing and strong westerlies toward the end of the month. Rain fell on 6 days, the total being 1.30 inches. The heaviest fall for the year to date is 3.33 inches, compared with 5.37 inches in 1925 and 6.76 inches in 1926. Farmers are taking advantage? of the dry weather to clean the laud and prepare for sowing. Owing to the unsatisfactory position of the wheat market it is very hard -to say what acreage will be sown, but probably about the 6ame area will be sown as last year. Feed is rather scarce, and a good rainfall would be welcome. ASHBURTON FORKS. The rainfall recorded at Alford Estate by Mr Angus Horsey for March totalled 556 points.
