PLUNKET SHIELD.

CANTERBURY v. WELLINGTON. VISITORS WIN BY 355 RUNS. (Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. The Wellington - Canterbury Plunket Shield game concluded at Lancaster Park yesterday and resulted in a win for Wellington by 355 runs. Canterbury made a good showing in their second' innings, compiling 334 runs, but the low score of 107 in their first innings in reply to Wellington's total of 448 had left them in a liopeless position. When play ceased on Monday, Wellington, ui their second innings, had made 261 for eight wickets. Yesterday morning their innings closed for 308, and this left Canterbury with 690 runs to make in order to win. Canterbury batted much better in their second innings than they did in their first, and also better than in either innings against Auckland. The opening batsmen, C. G. Crawford and F.. Woods, gave their side a fairly good start, putting on 50 runs before they were separated, and the good work was carried on by M. L. Page, C. Oliver, D. Sandman and M. Boon. Sandman, with 61, was top scorer, and this innings gained for him the distinction of having scored over 1000 runs in Plunket Shield matches. He is the thirteenth player to secure a fourfiguro batting aggregate for Shield matches Iu 52 innings (five times not out) he has scored 1021 runs, an average of 21.72. Sandman batted well yesterday, though he gave a couple of chances, the first when he was 28 and the second at 47. Both were in the 6lips. Oliver made 62 in good style and showed something of his true form. He and Page played a good partnership, which added 83 runs to the total. It was the best stand of the innings, though Boon and Sandman followed closely with a partnership which increased the total by 71. Page and Boon each made 41, Page is the only Canterbury batsman who scored double figures in each innings of the Auckland and Wellington games. The Wellington fielding was not so good as in Canterbury's first innings. Quite a number of catches were dropped, especially in the slips. Changes of bowlers were frquent, seven players being given a turn with the ball. The gate takings for the match totalled £343 6s 6d, made up as follows: Saturday £l4O 17s, Monday £152 8-s 6d, Tuesday £SO Is. \
