MEN’S DOUBLES COMPLETED

WON BY OLLIVIER AND WALKER

OTHER GAMES WELL ADVANCED.

Championship matches in the Mid- ! Canterbury Lawn Tennis Sub-Associa-tion's Tournament were played yesterday afternoon, when the men's doubles were won by Ollivier and Walker. The ladies’ doubles and ladies’ singles both reached the semi-final stage, and the other sections were all well advanced. The final of the men’s doubles attracted a large crowd of spectators, and some fine tennis was witnessed. Games concluded after the “Guar-1 diau” went to press are as follows: — Ladies’ Singles. • Third round—Miss Andrew beat Miss Sowden 4-6, 6-5, 6-2. I Semi-final—Miss Wood beat Miss Andrew 6-1, 6-2. Men’s Singles. Third round—Walker beat North 4-6, 6-1, 6-2.

Ladies’ Doubles.

Mrs Fisher and Miss Wake beat Misses Andrew and McDonald 6-5, 6-5.

Men’s Doubles.

.Semi-final—-Cuff and Allison beat Angus and B. B. Loughman 4-6, 6-3, 7-5.

. Final—Ollivier and Walker beat Cuff and Allison 6-2, ,6-2. The. first two games in the first set were the best of the final, Allison showing particularly fine form, his half volleys being very telling. Cuff played well at the met, and delivered softie good volleys. At the end of the fifth game Ollivier and Walker were leading 3-2, and they won the next three with ease. Ollivier played well up to form, his half volleys being especially good. Walker played bus best game'at the net, getting in some deadly smashing shots and some clever overhead work. I

The second set was a- repetition of the first, Cuff and Allison showing their best form in the first two games. At the end 1 of the fourth game the players were 2 all, Ollivier and Walker then took charge, wanning the set and final easily. '

Second . round—Pinfold and Miss Stewart beat Thomas and Miss Cowan 6-5, ,6-2; Fisher and Miss Fisher beat Bonnington and Mrs Mcßae 4-6, 6-2, 6-5.

Third round—Angus and Miss Ward beat A. B. Loughinan and Miss McDonald 6-1, 6-3. ’ v>

“B” GRADE HANDICAPS

Men’s Singles.

Semi-finals—Lawson (owe 30) beat Stewart (owe 15 6-6) 9-7. Final—Lawson (owe 30) beat Heenan (owe 3 2-6) 9-8.
