SATURDAYS ATTRACTIONS.
SEVERAL SPORTS FIXTURES.. BOWLING AND CROQUET. Followers of sport will be well catered for in Ashburton during, the New Year holidays, when bowling, croquet and tennis matches will herplayed, The Ashburton Bowling and Croquet. Club’s progressive tournaments, which were postponed from Boxing Day on account of the inclemency of the weather, will be played cn Saturday, while the Hakatere Sports dub will hold its annual meeting ,at Hakatere. The Ashburton Post and Telegraph employees will hold their annual picnic at Tern uka.
If the tennis tournament is not completed to-morrow, the finals will be played, on Saturday, but as the fixture- \ is now well advanc'd, it is expected that the games w/ 1 be concluded tomorrow. • /
Two rinks representing the Ashburton Bowling Club will go to Temuka. on Saturday to take part in the Tern mka Club’s , tournament. . The rinks
will consist of:—R. Capstick, T. Doherty, H. Milsom and H. Craighead (s), and G. Cowan, R. Buxton, MKissane and E. J. O’Brien (s). • Cricket will probably be the onlysummer sport that will not be played in Ashburton during the holidays, but a ✓team representing the Ashburton: Association will go to Hororata to play a team representing the Malvern Cricket Association.
The majority of shops will close at 9 o’clock to-morrow night, reopening on Monday morning. It is expected that one or two confectioners and greengrocers will be open on New Year’s-.
Day. On Saturday evening a dance will b& held in the Orange Hall.
