EXCESS OF SHIPPING.
THE QUESTION OF BUILDING. SUSPENSION ADVOCATED. (Press Association—Copyright.) LONDON, December 29. (Received! This Day, 2.5 p.m.) Mr W. O. Runciman (president of the Chamber of Shipping) writing in the “Glasgow Herald,” denies that shipping tonnage is as excessive as pessimists assert. He expresses the opinion that we are approaching the stage where cargoes will barely suffice to keep efficient tonnage fully employed. Cessation of immoderate building for a year or two, coupled with trading activity, should adjust the balance.
