64 DEGREES YESTERDAY. The thermometer yesterday reached its highest point for this winter, namely 64 degrees, but the average temperature was several degrees beiow the record. Fine weather was experienced in Ashburton to-day, the atmosphere being clear and warm with practically no wind. The barometer reading was 29.62, a rise of eight points over that of yesterday. Yesterday's temperature ranged from 36 to 64 degrees, compared with 47 to 63 on Monday. Two degrees of frost were recorded this morning. Showers fell at Mount Somers on Monday night, 17 points being recorded yesterday morning. Mild northerly, springlike, conditions ruled yesterday. OFFICIAL FORECAST. The following forecast was issued to-day:— Indications are for variable and strong breezes, but south-easterly moderate to strong prevailing and freshening. THE EJFFELTON JULY RECORD

Mr John McLauchlan, of Eiffelton, sends the following report on the weather in that district for July:—Rain fell on six days. The total was 233 points, of which 151 fell on the night of the 12th. Hard frosts were experienced with fine sunny days. Easterlies and north-west winds prevailed. For the year to date 14.82 inches of rain fell, 'compared .with 21.13 inches last year.
