While Spencer Stratton (the New Zealand motor-cyclist) was competing in the two miles scratch race on the Newcastle speedway, his machine skidded. Stratton was dashed against the fence, and was admitted to hospital suffering from severe abrasions on both arms and his face.. Earlier in the evening Stratton won a special match race against C. Datson, establishing a new track record for three miles in 2min 58 3-ssec.
