EMPIRE DEVELOPMENT

BOLDER POLICY WEEDED* MESSAGE FROM AMERICA.BRIGHTER OUTLOOK FOR 1926. (Per Press Association—Copyright.) (Router.) (Received This Day, 11.50 a.m.) NEW YORK, December 30. A New Year message signed by Mr Hunsdon (chairman of the newlyelected Empire Industries Association), Mr Ben Morgan (chairman of the British Empire Producers' Organisation), and other leading industrialists, says that, in view of the general attitude of the country to Empire problems, the efforts for international pacification, and the advances in Imperial preferences, prospects for 1926 are much brighter than they were in 1925; but it would be foolish to imagine that unemployment can be reduced to negligible proportions, or that tho standard of living of the British people and the security of their interests can be raised, or even maintained, unless the nation is prepared to pursue a more definite policy in respect to Empire development by means of preference, Empire settlement and Imperial loans, also a bolder policy in regard to guaranteeing our essential industries against unfair competition, monopolist foreign trusts, and sweated labour.
