The securities of eight Trade Union organisations met in London at the invitation of tho Miners' Federation, to discuss proposals for establishing a new Labour alliance for mutual protection. Mr Cook, secretary of the Miners' Federation, in an impassioned speech, appealed for unity, but the speakers generally were cautious and reluctant to bind themselves.

The meeting resolved to appoint a oommiittee, consisting of two representatives from each group of industries, to consider suggestions to be submitted to the conference.

Tho Labour correspondent of the | "Daily Express" says that the muchboomed Big Four Conference on Thursday is practically certain to fizzle out, and end in embarrassment for Mr Cook, the fire-eating disciple of Lenin, who is secretary of the Miners' Federation. The executive of the National Union of Railwaymen has decided to have nothing to do with the alliance, and the transporters will not support the scheme, and the engineers are divided.
