TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO. (From the "Guardian," May 7, 1900).' Forestry.—A meeting of Court Ashburton "was held last evening, the C'.lt. in the chair, and a good attendance of members. A good deal of routine business was transacted, including consideration of the report ui the business doae at the District meeting. The District Officers reported great satisfaction at their recent visit to this Court. Arrangements were made to hold the annual social and dance at an early date'. U.A.O.D.—-Star of Ashburton Lodge held its usual meitiug last evening. There was a, fair attendance. Five candidates were proposed lor membership. Three brothers were reported en the sick list. It was decided to open the Lodge on Installation night at 7.30 instead of 8.

M.U., I.O.O.F.—The Loyal Ashburton Lodge No. 6003 met on Friday evening, the N.G. Bro. H. Thompson, presiding. Sick pay was passed to four members cf the Ledge and also to four members of other Lodges living in the town. After the routine business some excellent son.es were given, and) games of cards and some chat saw a most enjoyafclo hour pass. High School Board.—A meeting cf the Ashburton "High School Board was held yesterday afternoon. Present — Messrs A. Orr (chairman), D. Williamson, Hugo Friedlander, M. Stitt, and the Hon. W. J. Steward. The headmaster reported the average attendance as being 36, the roll number being 39 I (boys 27, girls 12).
