AUCKLAND TROTTING CLUB. AUCKLAND. May 2. The Auckland Trotting Club's autumn meeting opened to-day. The weather was overcast. There was a. good attendance. The course was slightly holding, and light showers fell near the end of the day. Totalisatotr investments amounted to £50,207, compared with £35,640 10s on the corresponding day last year. Concluding results:— Hobson Handicap (in harness) of 400 sovs; two miles.—Reliance 1, Heather Girl 2, King Lear 3. Won by two lengths. Time, 4.42 3-5. Stewards' Handicap (in harness), of 450 sovs; two miles.—Rose Bingen 1, Roi Alto 2, Al Mack 3. Won by three lengths. Time, 1.46 3-5. Marconi Handicap, of 300 sovs; one mile and a-quarter.—Master Councillor 1, Nelson McCormack 2, Nelson Derby 3. Won by a neck. Time, 2.53. MARLBOROUGH RACES. BLENHEIM, May 2. The Marlborough Racing Club's autumn meeting was concluded in heavy rain sbr.wers. There was a good attendance. The tctalisator handled £12,596, against £12,479 for the second day of last year's meeting. Concluding results:— Rivorlands Hack, of 100 sovs; five furlongs.—Soh-ino 1, Tempean 2, Besan 3. Won by a neck. Time, 1.3. Farewell Welter Handicap, of 125 sovs; seven furlongs.—Gluement 1, Misgovern 2, Debate 3. Won bv half 9 length. Time, 1.30 2-5. Island dropped dead just before the race. Benwicktown Trot Handicap (in harness), of 75 sovs; one mile.—-Lizzie Franz 1, Humming Bird 2, Brandon 3. Won bv two lengths and a-half. Time, 2.32 2-5. SOUTH CANTERBURY RACES. SECOND DAY. "tIMARU, May 2. The autumn meeting of the South Canterbury Jockey Club was concluded at Washdyke on Saturday. The totalisator investments were £16,819 10s, compared with £20,006 10s on the corresponding day last year, making a total for the meeting of £33,027 10s against £35,767 10s last year. Concluding results:— Wai-iti Steeeplechase, of 200 sovs; about two miles.—Aurore 1, Kipling 2, Golden Prince 3. Won easily by eight lengths. Time, 4.13 2-5. Ternnka Hack Handicap, of 140 sovs; six furlongs.—Gold Brick 1, Olympia 2, Fairy Herald 3. Won easily by three lengths. Time, 1.16 1-5. Seadown Welter, of 200 sovs; seven furlongs.—Sun Up 1, Kilbarry 2, Quality 3/ Won easily by three lengths. Time, 1.30.

BEAUFORD TO RETIRE. SYDNEY, May 2. After seeing him run second to last in the Denham Stakes at Tattersall's meeting yesterday, the owner of Beauford stated that the horse had run his last race at Sydney. He intended to retire him from the turf.

AUSTRALIAN RACING. CITY TATTERSALL'S MEETING. "SYDNEY, May 2. The City Tattersall's meeting was run in fine weather. The cup was won by Mr 1. JVL. Timms's Auckland-owned colt, Te Kara, Stony being second and Cistenan third. _. . There were twelve starters. Dialogue and Garland made the earlier running, but after passing the Leger the three placed horses were singled out In a desperate finish heads separated them. Time, 2.22*.
