LOOKING BACK.
TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO. (From the "Guardian," May 2, 1925.) Mounted Rifles.—The first drill of the Ohertsey section of the Mounted Rifles took place last evening, and v/as well attended. Lieutenant Fooks, who instructed the men for about an hour and a half, expressed his satisfaction at the men's first display. Tinwald Debating Club.—The annual general meeting of the Tinwald Debating Ciub was held in the Templar Hall. A committee was elected. The late secretary, Trooper Charles Smith, was elected a life member. Presentation.—The Rev. J. Holland and Mrs Holland have been the recipients of numerous presents from the parish;oi;era of the parish of Rakaia, an the occasion of their leaving for the euro of Kaiapoi. At a social held at Methven, tho vicar gave a short lecture with limelight views of the war. Mr Baker, on behalf of the church people of the district, presented the vicar with a cheque. Mr Lambie, for the people of Doric, made Mr Holland the recipient of an illuminated address and a purse of sovereigns; and Miss Harrison presented Mrs Holland with a diamond and sapphire brooch. On Tuesday evening the Chertsey people gave a social, when Mr Stringfellow presented the vicar With a purse of sovereigns. Mr Willis expressed the sorrow of the district at losing Mr and Mrs Holland. Rakaia also paid a tribute to the minister at a farewell social in the schoolrooan. Mr Broadbent, on behalf of the people, presented the vicar with a handsome camera, and Mi's Holland with a coffee pot. Mr Irwin, churchwarden at Barrhill, also spoke.
