RE-OPENINGS OF SCHOOLS
ADVOCACY IN ASHBURTON.
TECHNICAL BOARD’S VIEWS. That schools in districts which have so far escaped infantile paralysis should be re-opened immediately was urged by the Technical Board yesterday. It was decided to urge the Health Department again, as iiad been done by a letter on February 26, to permit, the Technical School to re-open. In reply to the Board’s letter, the Health Department wrote that it could not agree to the school re-open-ing yet. The Chairman (Mr C. Reid) said it was a shame that the schools in the Ashburton district were not permitted to re-open. There had. been no cases near Ashburton, and the pupils were losing valuable time in study. Mr J. Cow: Prevention is better than cure, and it is better for the schools to remain closed.
With due respect to the wise men, soothsayers, and astrologers in charge of the regulations, said Mr G. W. Andrews, I think this school should be allowed to re-open. The Department should be approached again the matter. Mr Andrews moved to this effect, the motion being carried.
