GRAIN AND PRODUCE. ASHBURTON MARKET REPORT. Millers have not seen fit to increase the price of wheat during the: week, and farmers are still holding off in the hope of a higher figure. The millers’ offer remains as follows: —-Tuscan 6s 9d, Hunters 6s lid, Velvet and Pearl 7s Id, f.o.b. nearest port. Oats.—Gartons are more or less firm, with prices on a nominal basis of 3s 7d for A grade and 3s 4d for B, with 1 other samples according to quality. Gool Algerians are a little firmer, good bright quality being sold at up to 3s per bushel. Good heavy dark Huns are in demand at 3s 6d, but are difficult to obtain.

Chaff.—There is little chaff about. Good bright quality has been sold at £3 15s a ton on trucks for prompt delivery. Barley.—-Only a few lines have come on the market. Good malting quality is worth 5s per bushel, on trucks, and inferior about 4s.

Ryegrass.—The prices to farmers remain the same as last week, namely: Good, clean, heavy perennial 3s 6d to 3s 9d per bushel; Italian and Western Wolths 3s to 3s 3d; inferior 2s 9d to 3s.

Partridge Peas—The market is easier in sympathy with an easing tendency in the Homeland. The nominal value of No. l’s is 5s 9d.

Potatoes.—For forward delivery, from £3 15s to £4 per ton, on trucks, sacks supplied by buyers, has; been paid. The main crop is expected to be earlier this year than usual.

AUCKLAND MARKETS. AUCKLAND, March 12. Potatoes—Southern potatoes to hand by the Wingatui were not satisfactory, and it would appear they were shipped before being sufficiently matured to stand the trip up. Local merchants are quite content at present* to buy potatoes to fill immediate requirements. In the meantime there are sufficient local potatoes to keeip this market supplied for a little while yet, and in addition there are ample offerings at present from Rangitikei. • Local are quo'tod at £9 per ton, and southern at £9 10s. Onions—The market is very steady. Thd balance of. the locally-grown have been purchased for shipment to America. Local are worth £lO 10s per Maize—The position is unchanged. New Zealand is worth 7s 6d per bushel, African 7s 9d. Oats —New Zealand feed B Gartons are quoted at os 6d per bushel, and Algerian seed at 6s. Chaff—The market is very firm, southern merchants show no disposition to book at present rates for forward cMiverv. None is offering from Hawke’s Bay. Victorian compressed is quoted at £8 10s per ton, Blenheim at £lO 10s, and Itangitikei at £lO 10s.
