DOCTORS TO BE CALLED. BOYS’ MENTAL CONDITION. (Per Press Association —Copyright.) CHICAGO, July 31. The lives of Nathan Leopold and Richard Loch, the sons of millionaires, who pleaded guilty to the murder of Robert Franks, a schoolboy; will probably be spared. Judge Caverley anflounced that be l would hear the testimony of the alienists as to the hoys mental condition before passing sentence Counsel for the prosecution made a vigorous fight against this, on the ground that, having pleaded guilty, the accused admitted sanity, and must be sentenced without an inquiry mto their mental condition. The judge overruled this objection, recalling that he had recently sentenced a man to lire imprisonment, after a plea of guilty of murder had been made. In making that decision, he had been influenced by medical testimony as to the murderer’s diseased mentality.
