Representatives of associations in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa, in addition to members from Britain and Ireland, attended the first Congress of the Empire Commercial Travellers’ Association. Mr J. Davis (Australia) read a paper on the economic value and status of the commerciaL traveller. Mr F. W. Manton (New Zealand) said the commercial traveller there in m
many cases spent liis spare time prospecting and opening the country. The Lord Mayor and Lord Kylsant cordially welcomed the delegates. (Received July 25, 12.25 p.m.) LONDON, July 24. During a discussion at the Commercial Travellers’ Conference on organising the travellers on trade union lines, Mr Coysh, the British secretary, said such a step would be disastrous and utterly impracticable, and would establish an impassable barrier between employers and travellers. Mr Derose said the Australian Association would oppose a union, which would be objectionable to the average traveller.
