TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO.

Ariel Bicycle Club.—A general meeting of the members of the Ariel Bicycle Club was held in the Arcade Chambers last evening, a large number of members being present. A long discussion took place on the question of joining the Sports Association, and ultimately it was decided to join, and Messrs H. Willis and R. J. Henry were elected delegates. Mr E. Willis reported having procured a gold medal as first prize and a silver one as second for a road race for club members. It was decided to hold the race on July 6, the course being from Tinwald to Lagmhor gates and back. A committee was appointed to make preliminary arrangements for the annual ball. Mr Gates. —A complimentary banquet is to be tendered to Mr E. Gates on the eve of his departure for New South Wales. The dinner will be at the Tinwald Hotel, on June 22. Proposed Bowling Club.—A meeting of those intending to become members of the proposed bowling club is to be held in Mr Thomas's office shortly. Bike By-laws.—Cyclists will think Kaikoura county a barbarous locality. There any person riding a bicycle, on meeting any person riding or driving who shall signal to the cyclist to stop., is required to do so, and remove the machine to the side of the road till the person with horse or horses shall .have passed.
