STATEMENT BY THE PARENTS

In reply to the many newspaper innuendoes that their millions are to he used to set the hoys 'Leopold and Loeh free, the fathers of the boys- have published a statement declaring that they will not take advantage of their riches to defeat the ends of justice. They add: "We have asked the committee of the Chicago Bar Association to select our counsels and fix the fees, which will be those usually paid to medical experts also engaged under similar conditions. If the Courts find our isons are not mentally responsible we can give an undertaking to place them where they can no longer be a menace to any community." Amongst the hundreds of letters received daily at the gaol where the boys are held, the most notable is one addressed "Leopold and Loeb Company." It says: "You hay© no cause to worry ; yQu are in a country where justice is measured by wealth. With money and a slick attorney you will get away. You are as miserable a pair of cutthroats as ever travelled the Spanish Main. With a bag of gold, expert testimony and a spineless American jury, you will make a mockery of Justice."
