The record price of £4l 10s was obtained at Grimsby for a royal sturgeon caught in the North Sea by the trawler Bittern. There was spirited competition for the unusual catch, which was eventually knocked down for export to Germany at a price which exceeded 2s peri lb wholesale.

Chased by a dog, a ram plunged into Buttermere Lake, Cumberland, and swam out until it was exhausted. A boat lay near-by, but there were no oars. Two visitors tore railings from a fence, however, and, using these as oars, reached the ram when 100 yards from the bank. The animal was safely towed ashore by the horns.

Mr T. Dodd, of Wye (Kent), still regains his title as the champion rhubarb grower of the district. For the 31st year in succession he has carried off the first prize for the best stick of outdoor-grown rhubarb. Hi s specimens this year were 41 inches in length and symmetrical in shape.
