THE WEATHER.
KEEN SOUTHERLIES. I / Tho spell of wintry weather has continued, and, if anything, increased in its vigour. At no time during the 24 hours ended at 9 a.m. to-day was the temperature higher than 65 degrees, which is very low for this time of the I year. The lowest temperature yesterday was 43 degrees. Very little rain fell yesterday, hut shortly after midnight it commenced to--fall heavily, and intermittent falls; throughout the early morning resulted in the registration of 54 points by 9 a m., at which time the barometer stood at 29.96, which is well above yesterday morning’s reading of 29.79. The weather to-day has been cold and showery, with a bitter southerly wind, which at times veered toward the east. It is reported that a heavy fall of hail was experienced in the River Road district (Wakaiiui) at 7.30 a.m. today.
TO-DAY’S FORECAST. The following forecast was issued:— The indications are for southerly winds, moderate to strong. The weather will probably prove squally, with heavy showers. The night will probably be very cold. Barometer rising.
