ASHBURTON RACING CLUB. 1 THE ANNUAL REPORT. i The following is the Committee’s repent to be submitted i<o the members <of the Ashburton Racing Club at the •annual meeting to-morrow : The continued heavy taxation on the 'owners and the club has caused a heavy strain on the club’s finances, and unless a considerable reaction is made on the lovies and taxes, progression is impossible. During trie season, economy as far as possible Ims been the aim of the committee, and it has been impossible to effect any substantial improvements. Although no "rofit, has been made on the race meetings, both fixtures furnished some excellent sport, and proved most enjoyable. Owing to weather the -autumn meeting had to be postponed. This proved to be a wise decision, as the weather changed and the public enjoyed two fine days racing. During the year two valued members died—Mr Alex. Boyle, who was always a practical supporter of the club, and Dr C V. Baigent, who took great interest in The club’s welfare and gratuitously gave his services as surgeon. The membership of the club is loin . Mr T. "E. Upton, who held the position of Chairman for a number of years, and took a very keen and valued interest in the club’s affairs, decided not to stand 'for re-election, and Mr E. B. Newton, who is now absent on a visit to England, was elected chairman for the past season. The following nominations have, been received: — _ Committee —Messrs E. B. Newton, E. F. Nieoll, T. E.
