THE WEATHER.
A DISMAL WEEK-END. The continuous rain in Ashburton ’ over the week-end made the conditions ; very miserable, and although: the ram was bard at times it was mostly of a very light nature, and in the 48 hoursended at 9 a.m. to-day nearly threequarters of an inch of rain was re--corded, there being 42 points till 9 a.m. yesterdav and lv points for the next ’24 hours. The barometer has again reached to the unusual height of 30.3 inches, and appears to be stilt rising. Yesterday’s highest inside reading of the thermometer was 45 degrees, and the lowest was 37. Although this is high for frost, the difference in the inside and outside temperatures at the station being about four degrees, there was a record of two degrees of frost this morning: The sun struggled though scattered clouds to-day. and gave the town its most pleasant day for. two weeks*
