CARR ADMITS BEING FAIRLY BEATEN. SYDNEY, March 21. E. W. Carr, the New South Wales sprinter, in an interview, frankly admitted that when lie: was defeated by Kirksey, the American, he lost to a better man. He emphatically refuted the report that Kirksey had beaten the pistol, adding: “We all got away together, and I was fairly beaten by three o*f four) inches.” Carr hopes to again meet Kirksey at the Olympic Games next year. As a result of much helpful advice received from Kirksey, and his experiences during his New Zealand trip, Carr believes he will be able to materially improve his running time.

Carr -wrote to the chairman of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Council, thanking the association and the people for the hospitality shown his mother and himself. “The Americans,” ho says, “proved themselves to be the finest sportsmen both on and off the field, and the people of Australia and New Zealand willingly talio off their hats to the victors.” He hopes to make another visit to New Zealand while his form holds good.
