SWIMMING.
EAST ASHBURTON CLUB. The East Ashburton Swimming Club brought its season to a close on Saturday afternoon. To mark the occasion several events were arranged, but owing to the cold nor’-west wind and the coldness of the water, tlio programme was curtailed. Although the entries were large, swimmers failed to come forward in very satisfactory numbers, probably owing to the conditions mentioned. Military obligations also prevented a number from attending. Two competitors, -E. Brophy • and N. Tasker, tied for the Curtis Cup, awarded for aggregate points. Details of the events are as follow :
Schoolboys, 50 yards—C. McNally, 6sec, 1; B. Hamlin, scr, 2; A. Bradford, 12seo, 3. Time, sQsec. Schoolgirls, 25 yards—P. Chesters 1, M. Amos 2, Joan Watson 3. Time, 34sec.
Ladies, 50 yards—A. Loach, scr, 1; M. Amos, 18sec, 2. Time, 60sec. Only starters. 100 yards, men—E 1 . Brophy, 3sec, 1; N. Tasker, scr, 2; Ed. Beaumont, 3see, 3. Time, 1.24. x 50 yards, men—N. Nasker, 2sec, 1; E. Brophy, scr, 2; Ed. Beaumont, 2sec, 3.
