LAWN TENNIS.

GALA CHIP COMPETITION. As one of the results of the Sports Gala- hold in Ashburton on April 14 19211 four silver cups were granted by the Gala Committee for competition between the Tennis Clubs in the County, and the first competition for these Cups will be played off on Saturdav next. The intention is that the competition should be an annual one, and l jndcing by the interest aroused on this oeeasion there is no doubt tbV the idea of the Gala Committee will be achieved, and the Gala Cups become the most coveted club trophies in the County.

For the purposes of the competition a representative committee was sot Tin wttp tin"? ago, and the various affiliated) clubs were invited to select players bv competition to play for the Cups, there being a Cup each for Men, Senior Ladies, and Junior Men and Junior Ladies, the latter being players under 21 years of age. Each club was given the opportunity of sending two representatives in each grade. The play-off between the various club representatives will take

place on the Ashburton and the St. Andrew's Clubs' Courts on Saturday next, when many very interesting games should b© witnessed, as it is practically a "champion of champions" contest.
