COUNTY CENTRES

LAURISTON.

(From Our Own Correspondents.) A cricket match, Lauriston v. linwald, was held on the grounds, of the latter team on Saturday afternoon, resulting in a win for Tinwald by 131 runs to 40. The ladies of Tinwald provided afternoon tea. The annual picnic of the Lauriston Presbyterian Sunday School was arranged to be held on Friday last in a paddock near the Ashburton River, on the property of Mr G. Bland. Unfortunately, the weather in the morning was unsettled and showery, thus necessitating an alteration in the arrangements. In the afternoon the weather cleared somewhat, and sports were held at Lauriston in a paddock kindly lent for the occasion by Mr W. Brunsden. A piogramme of games, races, etc., was carried out, and tea was provided for children and . visitors. The prizes won by the Sunday School children for the past year’s work were presented by the Rev. A. S. Morrison during the morning service at .the Presbyterian Church last Sunday. During the past few .weeks there have been several beneficial showers of rain, hence there has been remarkable ■growth of grass and a noticeable filling out of grain. Feed is abundant, and everything points to a satisfactory •harvest. Shearing has been general, facilitated by the favourable weather conditions. Monday was. the hottest day so far experienced this summer.
