ATHLETIC SPORTS.
SATURDAY’S CHAMPIONSHIPS. Great preparations are being made for the Canterbury championship athletic sports meeting, which is to take place at the Ashburton Domain Oval on Saturday next. There are 18 handicap events and seven provincial championships, in addition to an extensive programme of other tests. Among the- competitors will be all the foremost athletes of New Zealand, including Taylor, the half-miler, and Tracy, the. Dominion’s champion sprinter. Altogether some 60 odd athletes will be on the field. The band will be in attendance. The time for starting the first event has been fixed at 2 o’clock. Particulars as to charge for admission are advertised elsewhere.
