CAUSES OF THE SLUMP
BERLIN, Sept. 27. The continuous fall of the mark- is resulting m a panic. During the day 424 marks was paid for an Englisn pound, and then 470 marks, compared with 20| before the war. For the American dollar 127 marks was offered. The fall is attributed to German industrialists buying foreign raw material too heavily m order to take advantage of the possibility of selling manufactured" products on favourable terms. It is also said that the Reichshank is buying foreign currency m large quantities for reparation payments. A third reason is that speculators m Holland, Sweden, Denmark, and Switzerland hold great . quantities of marks, and are now desirous of selling and cutting their losses.
