The annual registration of the factories m the district, as required under the Factories Act, is now being carried out by the local representative of the Labour Department. There are about 100 establishments m Ashburton which come within ' the medium of the Factories Art, which applies to any place m which ' anything is manufactured. Thus it includes milliners' and similar premises. A large number of the factories m Ashburton have yet to send m their registration for this year.
