MINIATURE RIFLE SHOOTING.

The enthusiasm so evident just now m Mid-Canterbury m connection with sports m general has been manifested at the recent annual meetings of the several mipature rifle clubs held m this district. This should go a long way towards ensuring this branch of sport a successful season. Nothing will help the youth of our country more than the study of the rifle and .the training pertaining thereto. Rifle shooting deserves the support of the public, ' and we would like to see a greats revival m this Branch of useful sport. Those mpmbers who during the GrWt War carried on the clubs under very . trying circumstances are to be congratulated, and there is no reason why -rifle shooting should not become a leading branch of sport. The Ashburton Miniature Rifle Club had a very enthusiastic annual meetirig, and its position is satisfactory. This club is fortunate m having a very keen patron m Mr T. Bullock, who went to considerable expense m erecting an excellent range m Burnett Street, which, m the judgment of visiting riflemen, is second to none m the Dominion. At a meeting held m Ashburton on Labour Day, visitors were unanimous m their praise of the range and the manner m which the officers handled their work. Judging from promises received, this year's meeting for the championships of Canterbury, for team and individual events, should prove a greater success. The committee elected by the local club is a strong one, and its endeavours to secure an increased membership merit the success they anticipate. Invitations are extended to all to come along and join the club. Those who cannot4fehqot are invited to come and learn, .^andi. those who can shoot to come and '{each. The opening of the season is fixed for to-morrow evening, when teams will be picked by the captain and vice-captain from those present.
