VALUE OF AN EARWIG.
"Take earwigs. A naturalist m Cambridge who has devoted a great deal of time to their »study, has found that earwigs do far more good than harm. They clean the dahlias, and destroy plagues of more harmful insects." Dr. Chalmers Mitchell,, the secretary of the Zoo, thus announced a valuable discovery m a lecture at London University. He said the eig"hty •preserves of the National Trust were nothing was allowed "to be destroyed, absolute , sanctuaries for wild • life and "You never know what a living thing may be worth," he said, "until you study it," Viscount Gery of ' Fallbdon, who presided, said many species of birds had been exterminated within living memory. The more .potfer men had over in struments of destruction the more necessary it wag that the use of them should be controlled.
