ASHBURTON DISTRICT CONThe annual conference of the Ashburton District, Manchester Unity, ha-de-pendent Order , of Oddfellows was heW inVjihe lodge-room, Theatre Royali on Saturday evening, Mr Jno. Chambers, : V.GM. (Methven), presiding over a full attendance of deputies from all : lodges m the district. Apologies for absence were received from Mr F. W 'Watt, P.G.M., and the district . officers of the North Canterbury District. Fraternal greetings were received from the VOtago District, arid were duly acknowledged. ,.,. , After haying welcomed the delegates, *the District Grand. Master briefly i'&ported on the business transacted during the. year. He Btated that all lodges m the district were carrying on m a satisfactory- manner, and at most lodge's ne"w members were being m - itiated. The Deputy Grand Master of New ■Zealand (Mr. W R. Gahagan, of 'Ohristchurch) and Mr F. Pritchard {Director, Ashburton) here entered the conference; ana were received and welcomed by the Grand Master. The two visitors duly returned thanks for the welcome extended. Mr Gahagan gave a 'very interesting address on the business of the New Zealand branch m general. It was resolved to amend the district ;rules affecting the National Provident ITund scheme. The election of district officers for the year resulted as follows: — Mr D. Russell, D.G.M. ; Mr J. Soal, D.D.G.M. ; D. Secretary. Mr A. C. Hardy ; D. Treasurer, Mr F. W. Watt, P.G.M. ; Committee of Management, P.G.s Messrs E. H Childs, J. S. Wilson, R. G. Silcock, D. McCaljum,(Ashburton), G. Currie, F. Mangin (Methven), G. Blee (Waterton), and A. J. Bennison (Mayfield) ; examining and Telievinc officer, Mr ThoK. Norgan, P.D.G.M. \ The newly-elected officers were duly .V installed into their respective office* by "Mr W. Gahagan, D.G.M. of New Zealand. It was resolved that the purple de-gi-'p" iheetine; be held at Methven at a time to be arranged by the district officers. After the conference the deputies and visitors were entertained by the district committe of management at i;he Commercial hotel to dinner.
