FRANCE MODIFIES PLANS.
SERIOUS SITUATION AVERTED.. January 29. ; The situation at the cdniei-ence was critical during the ' afternon, Mr Lloyd George threatening to leave immedi- : ately for London. Lord D' Abernon , intervened and secured certain amend- j ments to the French plans, which im- ; proved the situation. The formula is ■ a series of annuities varying from' one - hundred million to three hundred mil- ] lion pounds for forty-two years, the amount being regulated, by German trade. Britain's share will De twentytwo per cent. Germany will also pay 12£ per cent, on all her exports ; but \ there will be no fixed sum which Germany shall finally pay. The Supreme Council meets to-mor-row to conclude the agreement which will then be sent to German delegates. ( , Correspondents claim that the result is a triumph for Mr Lloyd George, as the proposal generally corresponded with the Boulogne agreement.
