. BLENHEIM, This Day: The Omaka was an auxiliary steamer-, the engine being 40-h.p., oil driven. She was a . wooden vessel, built/ m Auckland m 1886. Her dimensions were : Length, 74 feet ; beam, 20.6 feet; and depth, 6.2 feet. She was of 64 tons grass, and was bought by Eckfoi'd Bros, m May last. She was used previously m the .New Zealand coastal trade, under the name of the "May Howard." She left on the illfated trip from Blenheim at 4 o'clock on Saturday afternoon, and crossed the Wairau Bar at 9 p.m. The cargo comprised peas and chaff. A heavy southerly gale was blowing. The insurances are 1 , not available.
