TRUANCY CASES.
Mrs M. Paterson (Ashburton) was charged with failing to seld her son, J. E. Paterson, to the Technical school as required by the Act. Thr . truant officer stated that this was a most glaring case, as defendant had hot taken the trouble to reply to his notifications
Mr R. Kennedy, -who represented defendant, stated that Paterson worked in a garage at night-time and slept during the "day. . If he gave up this work ,it would mean that his employer would often lose work, valued up to £5. ■ .•■■■■■■■.,-.'■;
A fine of 10s with costs was imposed
Similarly charged, Charles Sloper (Hampstead) was convicted- and fined 2s; George Yeatman (Ashburton) 10s with costs, and T. H. Alexander (Ashburton) ss. The truant officer intimated that in future h<? intended to prosecute the employers as well as the children's parents.
