CARRIE LANCELEY.

Miss Carrie Lanccloy and her "Melody Maids," Miss Ava. Symons (yiolihiste), Miss Nellie Simpson (flautiste) and 'cellist c), and Miss Doris Strublo (pianisto and monologue entertainer), appeared before a packed house at His Majesty' 3 Theatre last evening, and provided one of the most delightful hour's entertainment that it has ever been the good fortune of an Ashburton audience to listen to. Miss Carrie Lanceley, who possesses a richtoned soprano voice, captivated her audience from the commencement, and generously responded to several encores. She is a lady of rare .talent, with a voice of ringing quality ', while her engaging presence helps towards the achievement of direct artistic success. In her numbers she included the "Jewel Song" in "Faust," 'and tho Irish ballad, " Dear Little Shamrock," and when the audience were loth to part with her she sweetly and appoalingly aarig "Home, Sweet Home." Miss Doris Struble, as pianiste and monologuist, combined daintiness and artistry.' She was vigorously encored after rendering her monologue "Spotty," and for a return impersonated a hysterical schoolgirl in " I ain't going to cry any more." MLss Ava Symons, the violinistc, played with sympathetic insight, while Miss Nellie Simpson, with her flute and 'cello, also showed distinctiveness. In the concerted numbers the quartette were equally successful, and showed admirable balance and artistic conception, J the items being rendered with fine effect. Miss Lanceley and In>r Maids I will return to Ashburton tit an early date.

After the interval the remainder of the programme was devoted to the screening of "The Life Mask," featuring Olga Petrova.
