METHVEN FATALITY

MAN THROWN FROM TRAP

An accident occurred in Methven yesterday evening, resulting in' the death of Francis Arthur Thomas Piercey, aged GG years, through being thrown from a trap and dislocating Ins neck. Deceased wus well-known in the district, having ■resided there for several year's.

An inquest was held at Methven this morning before Mr J. Cow, district coroner, Senior-Sergeant Ryan representing the police. ■ • ;

William Morgan gave evidence of identification, and said that deceased was a single man' about 06 years of age, and a teamster by occupation.

Frank Newman, livery-stable keeper, gave evidence that deceased left his horse and trap in his stables and called for it about 5.10 p.m. Witness saw him out of the stable; the gig lamps were lit' and everything was in "order. Peceased was a capable man with a Jiorse and was sober. *

James Edwin Carr, .schoolboy, said he was on the main road and hoard a runaway coming behind him. Looking round, he saw deceased falling from the trap as the horse was at iull gallop. Witness then, called ' menibcrs of the Road "Board, 'who "were in meeting- 1 at the time in the Road Board office close by. Dr. McKee testified that he was called in immediately after the accident and found Piercey dead. There was -a, dislocation. of the neck and severe hemorrhage from brain. The coroner-returned a verdict -that deceased was accidentally killed by being thrown from his trap. ■;.-£,*;
