TEACHER'S APPEAL
SUPREME COURT CASE

A reserved judgment has been given by Judge Stringer in a recent action in connection with the 1918 teachers graded list. The plaintiff, a school teacher at Mangere, applied for a writ of mandamus compelling the school inspectors of Auckland Education District, and, as'such, grading officers ot the district, and the Director of Education to amend the 1918 list for the. Dominion by restoring two marks or which plaintiff was deprived last year. Plaintiff had successfully appealed to the District Grading Appeal Board, but the board's finding had not been given effect to. The Judge granted a mandamus direoting the defendant, W. J. Anderson, in terms of the first part of the motion. Plaintiff, he said, was also entitled to costs, some portion of which waa caused by quite unnecessary obstacles which were thrown in the way of plaintiff's solicitors in endeavouring to ascertain tbo facts necessary to enable them to advise plaintiff as to his legal rights. He would be allowed 20 guineas and disbursements, to be paid by defendant Anderson, but he would make: no order with regard to costs on the other defendants.
