The Minister of Justice told a deputation from the Public Service Association to-day that the introduction of an eight hours day in the police force was 1 being tried on \Volo.ington,and if it were a success it would be brought into force all over the Dominion. Members of the force were., not-unanimously in favour of it, however, and some men had written to him saying that they could not march for eight hours on the Wellington pavements. Sergeant Lopdell, who was present, representing the force, said that he was surprised to hear what the Minister had said. He was sure the force would be indebted to the . Minister 'for the opportunity of giving the scheme a trial.
