RELIEVING DISTRESS.
ACTING-PREMIER'S 'COMMENT.
MELBOURNE, June 12. . Replying to a deputation of the Union "secretaries asking for relief of strike distress, Mr Watt described the seamen's'"strike was the most disastrous that had ever occurred, because Government and law were practically challenged. The Government would stand to the law. He promised-to co-operate with the State Governments: in rehevine distress, but not of those who had struck.
