HOUSING PROBLEM.

Speaking at a reception to Commissioner Hodder, of. the Salvation Armjr the Mayor,, Mr Luke, referred. to the housing problem, and. said that the Wellington City Council; was "trying to arrange for the ereotion of five- hundred houses. It was intended to borrow as a start £50,000 to build eighty houses. That would mean extra taxation of l-15d annually on the unimproved value of property in '^Wellington.. He-would suggest, that the Government should guarantee, the loan at 5 per cent,,with 1 per cent sinking fund. , , ;,. ,
