MEETINGS.

HAMPSTEAD TOWN BOARD

The monthly meeting of the Hampstead Town Board was held 'last evening. Present:—Messrs W. H. Robinson (chairmam), J. T.- By torn, 11. H. Loy, F. Johnston, W. Thompson, E. H .Chikls, and W. J. DaMey. The Chairman reported a debit balance of £279 9s 9d.

■ The-Alexandra Borough Council forwarded a copy of the following resolution., passed at a recent meeting of that body .■—'.'Owing to the spread of tub-ereulo-sis and the growing practice of the medical profession in sending patients to favourably" situated County districts, this Council is strongly of opinion that the Public Health . Department should undertake the control and care of all incurabte patients."—lt was agreed to pass a similar resolution, and to forward a copy to the Minister of Public Health.

A letter was received from the Minister of Internal 'Affairs stating that it had been decided that "each* locaJi body should have hvM Liberty to make its own arrangements regarding peace celebrations.—Received.

The Canterbury Progress ---League acknowledged receipt of the Board's, cheque for £3.—Received.

The Ashburton Cemetery Board wrote with regard to a proposal to asphalt the side-walk on the Main South Road, between the Town Belt and the- cemetery, .suggesting that each of the local bodies contribute £44 towards' this object.—Members considered that the quota -was beyond the reach of the Board, and it' was agreed to inform the Cemetery Eoard that it could not \see its way,.to support the proposal.

Applications from Andres Hanseii and Clara Simmer for n" refund of rates on unoccupied dwellings were granted.

; The clerk reported, that in only ,10 instances were the rates for the year ending 1918 outstanding, and the 'majority of these "were in the cases • of Holdiers or the dependents of soldiers. It was suggested that some inquiry should bo made concerning the incomes of soldiers or tlieir dependents whose rates were still unpaid, and the matter was referred to the Finance Committee for report at'Aext meeting, v :•:,.- .- ;-•'•■". ..: ■.-..".. ....
