W.C.T.U.

. The monthly meeting of the Ashburton "W.C.T.U. _was held in Baring: Souare Schoolroom on Tuesday afternoon. Mrs W. T. Lill presiding. Owing to the holidays the attendance was small. The president referred at length to the. opportunities awaiting all who are interested *in the uplifting of humanity, outlining avenues of, usefulness which 1 peace , conditions were" -- already -developing. Several appointments in departmental wort weremade, but it was considered advisable to postpone the remainder until a larger attendance of members was obtained. Mr Jack, organiser for the New Zealand Alliance, was present, and briefly addressed. the gathering on - the work in connection with the forthcoming poll. A number of questions was asked and answered,to the satis- . faction of the enquirers, and a hearty - vote of thanks was accorded Mr Jack. The secretary was instructed to procure copies of a series of pamphlets for distribution, and the meeting was closed' with the. Benediction.
