PROVISIONS AFFECTING CANTERBURY.

WELLINGTON, Oct. 24. There are no fewer than 126 clauses in the Reserves and other Lands Disposal and Public Bodies Empowering; Bill, commonly known as the " Wash-ing-up " Bill, which passed its first reading in the. House of Represonta-i tives this evening. The following clauses relate to Canterbury: —

Clause 79 vests in the Public Trustee certain property held by trustees in trust for the religious purposes of the German Protestant inhabitants of Canterbury. . ;, ) Clause 81 authorises the leasing to the Salvation > Army of the old immigration barracks at Addington.. Clause 89 severs an area of land from the Ellesmere Lands Drainage District, and places it under' the conI trol of the Ellesmoro County Council as a drainage district. Clause 124 provides power for county councils to supply water for domestic and other purposes.
