PRICE OF BENZINE.

]/ A TIMARU COMPLAINT,

WELLINGTON, October 22. The sudden rise in the price of^ heavy benzine from 12s 3d to 18s 4d a' case was the-subject, of a question by Mr Craigie to the Prime Minister in the House to-nighjb. The member stated that the Timaru'fishermen felt this rise severely, as it would cause great hardship. Mr Massey replied that lie was aware of the scarcity of mineral oils in some towns, but recently inquiry was made by the Department of Imperial Supplies which, ascertained that taking the Dominion as a whole there was sufficient mineral oils in New Zealand to last till the end of the year. The Government secured a vessel to load supplies of oil at New York, but it was taken by the Imperial Government. However, lie had reason to believe that another ship would load supplies,...which would be urgently needed at the beginning of the year. He would ask members of the Board of Trado to make" inquiries -at Tiinar'u to ascertain if benzine could be supplied at a lower rate. ' '. ,
