BABIES' HOSPITAL.
Few appeals to the public have, a stronger claim for support than that in connection with the proposal to establish a Babies' Hospital in Christchurch. A sum of £10,000 is required, and already nearly £8000 is in hand. It is to bo a hospital for rich people's babies and poor people's babies, its chief feature being that it will be entirely devoted to the euro of infants.' ailments. It is desired to make the institution a Canterbury one, and with this object an appeal is being "made in various parts of the province. Ashburton ought to be represented by several beds in the hos- : pital, each of these costing £100. About £50 has been, subscribed locally, and to-morrow the ladies of the Plunket Society will commence a collection in the streets in order to aug-. merit this sum. The fact that a few shillings contributed to this fund may save the- life of some ailing child ought to be a powerful' incentive., to give, especially when it is remembered how specially necessary it is at the present time to try and preserve the life of every child in order to fill the gaps caused by the war. Particulars of the collection -to-morrow will be advertised, and wo earnestly appeal to our readers, " for the babies' sake," to give their hearty practical support.
