AN APPEAL ON THIRD
ANNIVERSARY

NEW YORK, July 22
The "Sun's" Rome correspondent says it is apparently certain that the Pope will appeal for peace on the thiid anniversary of the war, next month. There is good reason to believe that instead of a general exhortation to all the warring nations, the Pope will aim at mediation with two nations not technically warring, as an initial step toward negotiations with the belligerents. Such suggestion clearly alludes to the United States and Austria.
